Mike McArthur - Founder / Certified NHLPA Agent

Mike McArthur Is the founder of The McArthur Group. He is also a lawyer and partner in the firm of Cline, Backus, Nightingale and McArthur LLP. Mike has a broadly based law practice encompassing sports, litigation and business. He is certified by the NHLPA as a Player Agent since 1997 and represents professional players, including recent and upcoming NHL Drafted players. Mike is committed to providing excellent representation from establishing the basis for draft selection, right through to contract negotiations under the new CBA, as well as promotional and endorsement opportunities. Mike gives individual attention to every client and is easily accessible and open to talk to at any time. He is straightforward and progressive and not afraid to tactfully take on the difficult case in courts or arbitrations to advance a client’s rights or legitimate interests.

Mike also teaches for the Law Society of Upper Canada as well as being a guest lecturer at universities.

Gerry McKeown – Director of Hockey Operations/PHPA Registered Player Agent

Gerry McKeowan Gerry focuses on the day-to-day operations of The Hockey Group and is a resource to all advisors. He is there 24/7 for his clients. He also oversees the situations of all Major Junior players and assists NHL draft prospects and players at all levels. Gerry knows what the world of hockey offers and what this best for players considering US College (Division 1 and 3), Canadian University, and the CHL opportunities. He actively ensures the proper guidance for parents and players alike. Gerry develops a close and trusted relationship with his clients and is focused on those steps to achieve results. Gerry’s additional experience as a parent of a former NCAA player, police officer and junior hockey general manager is most valuable to those parents and players needing the broad perspectives and knowledge about the business side of hockey. His usual coverage area extends throughout the Niagara to Toronto area of southern Ontario and into north-eastern USA. He has experienced the world of hockey from all sides and understands the multiple demands, difficulties and critical decisions that face players and parents. Gerry knows that there is no substitute for good decisions and a work ethic. He demands the best for every player and parent.

Kris Walleyn – Director of Major Junior Hockey Operations

Kris Walleyn Kris is focused on players and major junior prospects throughout southern Ontario. Kris is passionate about guiding minor hockey prospects and parents as they reach for opportunities and also prepare for the OHL,QMJHL,WHL Major Junior Drafts. Kris is committed to maintaining contact and keeping current with all of Major Junior GM’s, head coaches, operations and developments. Kris monitors closely all situations to ensure that parents and players are informed and is tactful when challenges arise. He has experience of taking parents and players through the Combines process, Draft Day, Rookie Camps, Main Camps and point out issues that will need to be considered in contracts. He knows what “The Best of Both Worlds” can mean for parents and players. He is also personally familiar with US Prep School and attended and played for South Kent School in New England. He also played minor professional hockey in Europe for the Leuven Chiefs and Hasselt Haskeys in Belgium Ice Hockey Federation.

Kris’s passion and experience provides perspectives and insights into the wider opportunities that exist beyond minor and junior and major junior hockey.

Jamie Carroll - Recruiting and Advisor for the U.S.

Jamie is entering his first season with The Hockey Group and is primarily responsible for recruiting and advising players in The United States (USHL, EJHL, NE Prep, College), primarily from the Greater Chicago Area and New England. Jamie brings a wealth of hockey knowledge and contacts to The Hockey Group. Having just completed a four-year minor professional career, playing both in The United States and Europe, Jamie also played university hockey with Providence University and has extensive knowledge on what it takes for players to make it to the next level. Jamie will be able to provide his players with first hand knowledge on playing in The United States and playing college hockey as a means to get to the professional ranks.
